Letty took advantage of her high school French and called in a AAA battery restart. Dom (who famously doesn't know much about cars), called his dad for advice on what might have gone wrong. It was Letty who put all the pieces together first, realizing the car has a safety feature that tries to auto lock when the keys are out of it. Thus, with a broken lock, the car had been trying to lock itself for two days draining the battery.
Relatively soon, a grizzly AAA man appeared with a battery restart. Letty went down the alley to keep the dogs away, so Dom had to make due with no French following the instructions of "Run 45 min, no AC" after the car started. The crew then made their way to a Honda dealership in Montreal where they were informed that Canadian parts couldn't be put into an American car. The race was on to reach the border as fast and as furious as possible (just kidding, they drove very responsibly).
Dom and Letty drove 10 hours in the pouring rain to Sault Ste Marie where a border Honda place claimed they could repair everything (they weren't sure if it would take a day or a month though until they saw the damage). Our heroes listened to podcasts, The Black Parade, Bad Day, the Redwall audio book, anything to help the kilometers drip by faster. Dom had to use all of his well known defensive driving skills as night fell, making sure a dark and rainy two lane highway got them to safety. They arrived almost at midnight to a hotel where they were told "Be sure to lock your doors in the parking lot". (See the Sasha side note for what they did knowing their car doors could not in fact lock)
The next day our heroes learned that the wonderful folks at the shop could indeed order the parts and get the car fixed within a couple of days. So with time to kill, Dom and Letty lived it up in the Soo. They went to three movies at the mall across the street from the hotel, getting snacks every time. They hot tubbed at least twice every day in the hotel. They ate towering continental breakfasts. They went for runs along the water and pumped weights in the hotel workout room with the vigor of a Rocky training montage.
The small town charm also worked its magic on them. After the front desk worker at the hotel learned of their plight, they were offered a discount on the extra nights needed. Another of the front desk workers also worked at the theater and noticed them, asking about why they were in town and checking in on how they were doing. Slowly the mistrust of strangers gained when their car got broken into melted away. And soon enough, the car was fixed, and they hit the road on four wheels as they were always meant to.
Sasha sidenote: Every once in awhile, Sasha's reactiveness and aggression is incredibly useful. Like when you need to make sure no one breaks into a car that can't lock in a hotel parking lot. We set Sasha up in the car with a jacket and blanket in the front seat and told her to let loose if anyone came near. Any thief would be a fool to open that door. She performed her duties with flying colors, and we rewarded her with some continental sausage the next morning. A good reminder that every creature has skills to help given the right situation.
